Madisin Rian 2023: Dominican Republic

Madisin Rian was photographed by James Macari in the Dominican Republic for the 2023 SI Swimsuit Issue along with fellow models Katie Austin, Camille Kostek, Hailey Clauson, Brooks Nader and Lauren Chan.

Rian has been in the industry for 15 years and became the first Black woman to be the face of Giorgio Armani Beauty in 2018. She has also worked with notable brands such as Polo Ralph Lauren, Donna Karan and Stuart Weitzman. Six years ago, Rian chose to shave her head and has never looked back. In fact, she’s called the bold move one of the most liberating decisions she’s ever made. This is her first appearance in the SI Swimsuit Issue.

Cap Cana is a tropical oasis located in the Punta Cana area of the Dominican Republic. The exclusive private community is renowned for both its luxurious service and non-stop activity. It boasts white sand beaches, seaside cliffs and a variety of native wildlife. The area is also home to Sports Illustrated Resorts Marina & Villas Cap Cana, an all-inclusive luxury resort that is an ideal spot for adventurous guests who are looking for an action-packed getaway. Thus, the location was an easy choice for the 2023 SI Swimsuit Issue.

The SI Swimsuit team decided to leverage the eager anticipation around this summer’s forthcoming Greta Gerwig-directed Barbie film, so the styling for Rian’s photo shoot embraced full-on Barbiecore. The swimsuits were sexy and playful while exuding tons of powerful feminine energy. Think lots of hot pink, bold patterns and strong silhouettes suitable for the iconic doll herself.
